About Us
Our Mission
The Thunder Bay Swing Dance Society is dedicated to promoting and preserving the art of swing dancing in Northwestern Ontario. We strive to create a welcoming, inclusive community where dancers of all skill levels can come together to learn, practice, and share their love of swing dance.
Our History
Founded in Thunder Bay, our society has been bringing the joy of swing dancing to the community for years. What started as a small group of enthusiasts has grown into a vibrant community of dancers who gather weekly to dance to jazzy tunes and keep the tradition of swing dancing alive.
What We Do
We offer free weekly dance classes every Monday evening at C.D. Howe Public School from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. No previous experience is required, and everyone is welcome to join us. Our classes cover various swing dance styles and techniques suitable for both beginners and experienced dancers.
Each Monday night session starts with beginner-friendly instruction where we break down the fundamentals of swing dancing in a fun, supportive environment. As the evening progresses, we open up the floor for social dancing where you can practice your moves, meet fellow dancers, and experience the pure joy of dancing to swing music. Don't worry about bringing a partner. We rotate throughout the class so everyone gets a chance to dance with different people and build their confidence on the floor.
Join Us
Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced dancer, we'd love to have you join our community. Drop by one of our Monday evening sessions, connect with us on Facebook, or send us an email with any questions.
Beyond our weekly classes, we host exciting special events throughout the year including social dances, workshops with visiting instructors, and themed dance parties that bring together swing dancers from across the region. These events are perfect opportunities to showcase your new skills, immerse yourself in the swing culture, and create lasting memories with friends old and new. Check our events page regularly to stay up-to-date on upcoming activities. There's always something fun on the horizon!
